Health Promotion and Prevention

Insight provides a range of consulting and training services for designing, conducting and analyzing studies assessing health promotion and prevention strategies.

A key tenet in the health field is that “prevention is better than cure”. It is better to stop an illness from occurring than to treat it after it has happened. There are a number of factors to consider in health promotion including:

  • Knowledge - how much does the population at risk know about the health condition, long-term prognoses, and potential management strategies?

  • Behaviour - how does the population at risk behave regarding risky behaviours, detection strategies, and treatment management strategies?

  • Attitude - what does the population at risk think about the health condition and the management strategies? how much do they care about the condition, the prognoses, and the management strategies?

There are then questions about what are the best strategies for health promotion considering factors such as:

  • Do these strategies reach the population that are at risk?

  • Are they effective in promoting healthy knowledge, behaviour and attitude within this population?

  • Are they the best use of financial and other resources in reaching this level of benefit?
